1. When will my 1099-R be mailed for the year 2024?

1099-Rs will be mailed on or before Friday, January 31, 2025.

2. Can I see my 1099-Rs online?

Yes! If you received pension payments, a lump sum refund, or are a beneficiary who was paid a death benefit during calendar year 2024, your 1099-R will be available online by Friday, January 31, 2025. View, print or download your 1099-R tax forms through your secure online account at any time. Login via the following link: https://portal.ers.ga.gov/. Once you are logged in, click ‘View 1099R’. You will see a list of each 1099-R we have issued to you. Click the ‘View 1099R’ button on the right to view, print or download.

3. Are health and dental deductions included on my 1099-R?

Health and dental deductions are included in your Gross Distribution in Box 1 on your 1099-R. View your monthly deductions by accessing your Payment History through your secure online account at any time. Login via the following link: https://portal.ers.ga.gov/. Once you are logged in, click ‘View Payment Information’. This page will show a summary of your account, including current direct deposit, tax withholding elections, and deductions. Click the ‘My Payment History’ button to view a detailed breakdown of each monthly payment, including health and dental deductions.

4. What are non-taxable contributions?

Non-taxable contributions are after tax contributions you made while employed. It appears on your 1099-R in Box 5 as the difference between your Gross Distribution in Box 1 and Taxable Amount in box 2a. The interest accumulated on those contributions is taxable. Box 5 is for informational purposes only.

If you elected to receive a rollover to a financial institution for the interest, you will receive a separate 1099-R. The rollover is not taxable until you withdraw those funds from the rollover institution.

Your 1099-R for the refunded contributions will have zero in Box 2a, Taxable Amount. If you elected to have both contributions and interest refunded directly to you, the taxable amount on your 1099-R will report the accumulated interest.

5. What if my address is incorrect?

If your address is incorrect, the US Postal Service will not forward your 1099-R, and it will be returned to our office. Please log in to your secure online account to update your address and view your 1099-R. Login via the following link: https://portal.ers.ga.gov/

6. 1099-Rs for deceased cases are mailed to whom?

These will be mailed to the last address on file when the 1099-R was prepared.

If you require a 1099-R for a deceased retiree/beneficiary, and the 1099-R is to be sent to an address other than the last address on file, please submit a written request to our office with:

  • Name of deceased retiree/beneficiary, and their SSN or Pension ID
  • Your name and original signature
  •  Address where the 1099 should be mailed
  • A copy of your photo ID

1099-Rs for deceased retirees are only released to authorized contacts on file. Supporting documentation, such as Power of Attorney or Letters of Testamentary may be required if we do not already have these documents on file.
